Home grounds list – input required

Hi everyone

As we hurtle towards the launch of the summer era data on-line, we’re continuing to work on information both for this, and the broader data. One crucial area that hasn’t had much focus so far is grounds.

There’s actually quite a bit of work to do here (as with everything it’s not as straightforward as may first appear), but to get us started, I am sharing a link here to a file that I have set up for member to populate. What we need is simply the name of the main home ground for each club, for the duration they played there. I’ve pre-populated all the clubs (including name changes) to give some structure to this, and have done Warrington as an example to illustrate. A few things to note:

  • please use the full official name of the ground as it was at the time
  • where grounds are re-named, list them all, but in the available column refer to the previous name, so it’s obvious that this is a re-name
  • note the start and end date of the ground. If this is linked to seasons, just enter the season, but but for any mid-season changes, please enter a specific date
  • please enter your name, so we can follow up if needed; also add any comments if necessary to help with potential queries
  • please only use reputable sources for these (e.g. club material / Trevor Delaney’s excellent books) – basically, not Wikipedia!

We are also, for the summer era only (at this stage) looking to identify, by exception, any ‘home’ games that were played at alternative grounds. There is a separate tab for this, so please just make a note of any such matches (the guidance above applies here too). NB: there’s no need to do anything for 2020, where multiple SL clubs played at different venues, as we’ll capture this as one exercise!

Feel free to do as much as you want on this. Any input is appreciated, as it will minimise work needed down the track. If you see that someone has entered something you disagree with, I’ve added in a few extra ‘comments’ columns – just make a note in there (please don’t overwrite other people’s work (this isn’t Wikipedia!!) – I’ll be able to tell )

Alternatively, mail me the necessary inputs if it’s easier, and I can transfer onto the document.

The link to the file is here >>> Club home grounds

All the best
Neil
